KNOW BEFORE YOU GO CAMPAIGN 2008-09
RESPONSIBLE TOURISM IN PERU
Since 2006 the British Embassy in Lima has implemented a campaign aimed to promote the safe tourism of British nationals who visit Peru and advise how the Embassy can assist them if things go wrong during their stay in the country. The “Know Before You Go” campaign, sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, has produced a number of publications distributed throughout the country since then.
In 2008-09 the campaign will try to promote not only the safe tourism, but also the responsible tourism of British nationals in Peru. The Embassy, in conjunction with UNODC, UNICEF, PROMPERÚ and the Peruvian Net against Child Pornography is warning British travellers to avoid any type of involvement in child sex exploitation and/or drug trafficking.
The increase in foreign nationals detained in Peru for drug trafficking, as well as the increase in child sex exploitation identified in many tourist cities of the country, has led the Peruvian government and local and international organisations to welcome and support this interesting initiative. The Know Before You Go campaign aims to reach all tourists in Peru, therefore, if you wish to help us distribute the materials, please feel welcome!
